New One Rupee Currency Note - Key Features


One Rupee Note is the smallest Indian currency in circulation. It is the only one to be issued by the Government of India while all the others are issued by the Reserve Bank of India. Recently, The Government of India has announced to circulate new currency notes in one rupee denomination. These notes will be printed by the Ministry of Finance. The new one rupee denomination notes shall come into force from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette, i.e. 7 February 2020.

New One Rupee Note Design

The size of this one rupee currency note will be rectangular 9.7 x 6.3 cms. It will be 110 microns thick while its weight will be 90 GSM. Bharat Sarkar’ at the top in Hindi while ‘Government of India’ will be written in English below will be imbibed in the observe side of One Rupee Currency Note. The new one rupee notes will contain the bilingual signature of Atanu Chakraborty, Secretary, Ministry of Finance. Also, The note will have the replica of new rupee one coin with ' ₹' symbol of 2020 issued with 'Satyamev Jayate' and capital inset letter ‘L’ in numbering panel. The numbering shall be in black at the right-hand bottom portion of the note in ascending size of numerals from left to right. The first three alphanumeric characters (prefix) remains constant in size. It will have hidden ‘1’ in the center and the hidden word ‘Bharat’ vertically arranged on the right-hand side. It will also have the symbol of grains as a symbol of importance agriculture holds for a country like India.

The value of note will be written in 15 Indian languages and will be made of 100 percent rag content with predominantly pink and green colors on it. The reverses side of the note will have a floral design with a picture of Sagar Samrat. Sagar Samrat is a merchant vessel designed for use in exploratory offshore drilling of new oil and gas wells or for scientific drilling purposes. It was the first rig that drilled the first well offshore in 1974.

The new currency note will be predominantly pink green on the obverse and reverse in combination with others. They will be rectangular in size with 9.7 x 6.3 cm dimensions.
